Vermont for Offshore Wind

Despite not having any coastline itself, Vermont is still contributing to offshore wind development and can benefit from a cleaner regional grid. Vermont has long-held and well supported clean energy and climate pollution reduction goals, including a 90% by 2050 total renewable energy goal for meeting transportation, heating, and electricity needs through renewable resources.

Meeting those goals will require procuring far more new, clean energy resources as more Vermonters switch to clean, renewably-powered solutions for heat, power and transportation. While in-state, job-creating renewable generation will be an important part of Vermont’s energy future, offshore wind also offers exciting potential to help the Green Mountain State do its part to tackle the climate crisis in an affordable, innovative, job-creating way.

Vermont has also created specific courses to prepare students for jobs in the offshore wind industry. Training and keeping bright graduates in New England requires a robust industry.
