What does membership entail?

There are two types of membership: Coalition Partners and Campaign Endorsers (see below for descriptions). All member organizations support the mission of the New England for Offshore Wind campaign and embrace the campaign’s core values.

Mission:

New England for Offshore Wind is a collaborative, broad-based coalition that includes partners from a diverse array of organizations and communities across New England. We are committed to combatting climate change by increasing the supply of clean energy to our regional grid through more procurements of responsibly-developed offshore wind. We believe that responsibly-developed offshore wind is the single biggest lever we can pull to address the climate crisis while also strengthening our regional economy, protecting ratepayers, creating prevailing-wage jobs, and improving public health by reducing pollution. A transition to a clean energy economy through offshore wind must be done in an equitable way. Our coalition advocates at the state and regional levels and aims to drive New England governors and legislatures to make commitments by 2022 to power 1/3 of our region with offshore wind.

Core Values:

  • Respect & Responsibility: All people and the environment deserve respect—we seek to drive policy that ensures the responsible development of offshore wind by treating people and the environment with dignity and respect.
  • Science-Based Decision Making: Consensus in the scientific community is clear—climate change is an existential threat to humanity and the environment. We should act accordingly and with the urgency required to mitigate this crisis.
  • Equity, Inclusion & Participatory Governance: We seek to convene a diverse group of organizations for a shared purpose, and engage with labor and justice allies to ensure we integrate offshore wind onto the grid in a way that benefits the communities hardest-hit by climate change and that have been historically under-served and overburdened by energy pollution.
