BOSTON – July 2, 2024 – New England for Offshore Wind (@NE4OSW) today celebrated the federal approval of the construction and operations plan for New England Wind I & II.
“The final approval of New England Wind marks another victory in what is shaping up to be a historic year for offshore wind in our region,” said Kelt Wilska, Offshore Wind Director, Environmental League of Massachusetts, and NE4OSW Regional Lead. “With one project complete and multiple projects underway, New England is setting a model of efficiency for the nation as we race to meet federal climate goals, create thousands of family-sustaining union jobs, and get off the volatile market of dirty fossil fuels.”
Background
In late March, Avangrid bid the two projects comprising New England Wind – formerly known as Park City Wind and Commonwealth Wind – into the current Massachusetts offshore wind solicitation. In conjunction with the submissions, Avangrid renamed Park City Wind as New England Wind I and Commonwealth Wind as New England Wind II.
